PM approves privatisation of 26% shares of PIA

Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad and approved the privatization of  26 percent shares of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).  Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Parvez Rashid, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other senior officials also attended the said meeting chaired by PM.

Nawaz Sharif also issued directives to the management of PIA to focus on operational efficiency of PIA, slash the uneconomical expenses  and elevate skilled professionals to compete modern day environment in the air transport industry.

Problems and issues like declining service standard, lack of reliability and punctuality, pilferages, lack of quality manpower, training and job rotation, ageing fleet, over-staffing and high loans resulting in heavy financial cost, have also been discussed in the meeting which are being faced by PIA.
