Removal of circular debt will add 1700MW of electricity: Ahsan Iqbal

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal informed the media that elimination of circular debt will add 1700MW electricity to the national grid. He said that payment to the IPPs will increase their capacity to produce more electricity that is dormant because of lack of financial resources. He said that gradually fuel mix will be tilted more towards coal and hydel. But unless an optimum mix is achieved it is important to help the electricity generators. He also pointed that lower segments of the society will be provided electric subsidy but the prosperous segments of the society should pay a fair price.

He said that foreign direct investment can not be attracted unless law and order situation is improved. He said that APC was delayed because of Imran Khan’s travel to Britain and will be organized as soon as possible upon his return.
