Pakistan should implement Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project

Former Minister of Oil & Gas Naveed Qamar has said that Iran-Pakistan pipeline should be implemented on fast track or else Pakistan has to pay damages for breach of agreement. He said that buying gas from Iran is in the interest of Pakistan.

Minister for Oil & Gas Shahid Khaqan Abbasi while speaking to the journalist outside parliament responded that the government is looking at the agreements signed with Iran and will soon make a decision.

Pakistan has faced frequent load shedding and gas shortages in the last years. Industry has suffered billions of rupees because of lost productivity. US has imposed economic sanctions on Iran and warned Pakistan that their gas purchase agreements violate these sanctions. US has advised Pakistan to instead consider buying gas from Central Asian countries and offered assistance for it as well.
