Pakistani delegation in Russia for strategic talks

A delegation of Pakistani diplomats lead by Foreign Secretary Jalil Jilani is in Moscow on a two day visit to hold strategic dialogue with Russian counter parts. The agenda of the delegation include regional, economic, security and strategic cooperation. The relations between the two countries have been gradually improving. Russia supported Pakistan’s observer status in Shanghai Cooperation Corporation (SCO) while Pakistan lobbied for an observer status to Russia in Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

President Zardari, during PPP government in the center, personally led the efforts to improve relations with Russia.

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani visited Russia last month. Russia is an important stake holder in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Eurasian economic zone.
