Former member of PTI Chairman Advisory Committee and Central Tarbiyati Council Abdul Quayyum Khan Kundi issued a public statement about rising trend of rumors:
It seems Pakistan has become a land of rumors and the most disturbing trend is that highly educated people are most active in it. In last two weeks, I have so far received 10 or 12 versions of Supreme Court verdict on Panama leaks. These rumors should not be taken lightly as they damage the credibility of our institutions and creates confusion in the mind of people about what to believe or not believe.
It is our responsibility to stop a rumor when we receive it rather than forward it by just labeling it “forwarding as received”. By sending it out we are endorsing it and should be held responsible for it.
PEMRA and other state institutions should take serious actions against such will full rumor mongering on regulated media. I understand that it is not possible to control social media but we can’t allow such thing to become a norm on professional media.
