Raise in Salaries of Parliamentarians by Abdul Q Kundi

I just saw the statement of Chairman Imran Khan that he opposes raise in salaries of parliamentarians. This is a departure from his earlier declared position that he believes in the philosophy of Singapore’s founding leader Lee Kwan Yew which suggests that public representatives should be paid well but at the same time punished for corruption.
I am not against raise in salaries of parliamentarians but the timing could have been better. Parliamentarians should be paid enough for them to maintain a decent but not extravagant lifestyle. Current salaries are too low. Secondly there has to be some performance criteria for release of incentives. For instance attendance record and participation in debates and committees. Lastly parliamentarians are expected to be model citizens in terms of paying taxes and abstaining from corrupt and unethical practices.
