Pakistan travel faces downturn

The continuing terrorist acts and other crimes has severely hurt the sales of airline tickets to Pakistan. The travel agents engaged in arranging travel for trips to Pakistan are facing squeeze not only from airlines selling directly to customers but also reduction in the number of people traveling to Pakistan. This situation is especially severe for agents that rely heavily on Pakistan tickets sales.
The association of Pakistani travel agents are planning to organize a petition to file with major airlines to ensure that the prices offered on the airline web sites are not same as the whole sale prices offered to the travel agents. This practice of offering similar prices on their own websites might be in contradiction of the fair trade practices of United States. Pakistan Chamber of Commerce-USA organized a coal forum

Houston, Texas, November 21, 2010: Pakistan Chamber of Commerce-USA (PCC-USA), the leading trade organization of Pakistani-American businessmen, organized the first ever coal forum in Houston in November to attract investments in coal sector of Pakistan.

IMF will not delay aid

A delay in appointing a new Pakistani finance minister should not disrupt the delivery of assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), former finance ministry chief said on Thursday.
Former Finance Minster Shaukat Tarin announced on Feb. 23 he was resigning to focus on his private business interests.
No replacement has been announced amid media reports that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani disagreed on who should be in charge of the portfolio.
ECC approves import of Urea

The government has approved import of 400,000 tons of urea to meet its shortage in the remaining period of Rabi and Kharif season 2009-10 and sell it through government mechanism involving a subsidy of about Rs600 per bag.A decision to this effect was taken on Tuesday at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
